Machu Picchu train service suspended until further notice
The railway company Peru Rail said suspending rail operations in the route Cusco – Machu Picchu – Hydroelectric and vice versa until further notice. This restriction applies both for tourist services such as social services, passenger, cargo and baggage.
This against the measure announced by the Defense Front Machu Picchu to prolong indefinitely the paralysis that comes abide in Machu Picchu Pueblo. It is worth mentioning that the service was also suspended during the 48-hour strike held on 15 and 16 November.
Peru Rail specify a statement that will provide all facilities to passengers who request the return of their travel tickets. “These operational definitions are given priority to the safety of our passengers and crew off the protest called in Machu Picchu Pueblo,” reads the note.
On the other hand, the company reported that, to the extent that the necessary security conditions are generated, expects to operate some trains on 17 November to evacuate tourists found in Machu Picchu Pueblo and have need to leave the district .
It should be noted that one of the demands of the residents of Machu Picchu Pueblo is a better rail service for the local population needs to mobilize in this sector of Cusco.
